FRIENDS of the Blue Ridge Parkway is a non-profit, volunteer organization that is dedicated to preserving, promoting and enhancing the Blue Ridge Parkway, a national treasure.

Save the Parkway Views

A primary concern of visitors to the Blue Ridge Parkway is the loss of views. As the only authorized agency to restore Parkway views, where land trust groups cannot secure the land, FRIENDS must step in. The Park Service has identified over 50 views along the 469 mile parkway that need immediate attention. Each view restoration has a price tag of over $20,000.

Through our Save the Views program, hundreds of mature trees and seedlings are planted to re-create the design elements of the original Parkway design strategy.

In addition, our "Kids Empowering Kids" has youth and children of all ages planting the trees. Youth also mentor younger children to plant trees and seedlings, gain environmental awareness and share in the memories: "This is my tree -- and over the years to come, I will watch it grow."

Volunteers and communities along the Parkway are joining hands to support each project. Mature trees are planted in the fall and seedlings in the spring, with our last planting achieving a 98% survival rate!

By joining to support the Save the Views program, you will receive the satisfaction of knowing a tree has been planted to Save the Parkway Views in your honor. In addition, you will receive:

Gifts of $100 or more will be listed in our newsletter annually. Gifts of $500 or greater will also receive a Save the Views certificate that includes the location coordinates of where your tree is planted.
